Founded in 1942, MEPHI has an enrollment of about 6000 students. A principal area of study at MEPHI is nuclear power.
There are over 80 students at MEPHI who have received training on Caché. Among these, seven students are doing computer science thesis work that is based on Caché. This academic program is being well received, and the enthusiasm for Caché is high. The use of Caché is expected to increase.
| Faculty and students at MEPHI gather at the official opening on October 18, 2001 of the new computer laboratory being established in association with the Caché Campus program. |
The MEPHI officially opened their new computer laboratory for students in a special conference on October 18, 2001. The laboratory has been in use by the first class of 20 students since mid-September.
The conference was attended by public media representatives that included ComputerWorld, PC WEEK, BYTE, Client/Server Technology, and Telecom. Also, representatives from eight businesses in Moscow who are associated with the laboratory activities were present.
The MEPHI administrators and faculty responsible for the laboratory described the goals and projects scheduled for the laboratory. The conference presentations included research work done by students in the laboratory.
The laboratory is equipped with 10 computer work stations to accommodate 20 students in a single class. It is expected that during the current 2001-2002 academic year there will be four classes scheduled in the laboratory. Thus, as many as 80 students will receive training with Caché technology at MEPHI.
Two professors on the faculty have written a textbook on Caché for use by the students at MEPHI. This textbook was completed to support teaching in the newly opened computer laboratory. Teaching general principles of computer science by using Caché technology will be emphasized in this laboratory.
