The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Home Page

Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a few blocks from InterSystems’ Cambridge office, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a coeducational privately endowed research university known for excellence in engineering and business management education. MIT's School of Engineering is the top-ranked in engineering nationally according to U.S. News and World Report.

MIT’s mission is to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century.

Engineering Systems Division (ESD) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

MIT’s Engineering Systems Division represents a bold educational initiative aimed at establishing Engineering Systems as a field of study and advancing theory, policy and practice in this domain.

Within MIT, ESD is an interdisciplinary organization uniting faculty and students from engineering and management interested in large-scale, complex engineering systems. The Division focuses on complex,technology-based products (i.e., automobiles, airplanes, etc.) and systems (i.e., transportation, telecommunications, energy, etc.).

While technology is a fundamental part of these systems, issues of management and more generally societal interactions are equally important.

Caché in the Classroom:
Within ESD, Caché will be used to facilitate graduate research in Information Technology-enabled feedback systems in educational environments.

Specifically, a student-developed web-based feedback collection tool built with Caché will be used in conjunction with specific courses and learning objects distributed by the Engineering Systems Learning Center (i2i.mit.edu) to evaluate learning processes and materials.
