The
Samford University Department of Math and Computer Science in Birmingham, Alabama,
is using Cache in the classroom in Databases and File Structures course Cosc
315. Professor Susan T. Dean's students study the design, creation, and maintenance
of data files, and implementation of several methods in high-level languages,
including use of COBOL, sorting and searching techniques, and how they relate
to various data structures. The underlying concepts and structures in this
course pertain to design and implementation of database management systems.
Lab experiences include implementation of DBMS projects using commercially
available software. This course explores ethical issues involving security
and privacy, and other issues arising in the use of distributed databases.
